Man who drowned while trying to swim across cove at Laurel Lake is identified
A London man who drowned while trying to swim across a cove at Laurel Lake on Thursday evening has been identified.
Witnesses said Jordan Gray, 30, began to struggle while swimming, then went under and did not resurface, Kyle Clark, a game warden with the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources, said in a statement.
Fish and Wildlife was called at 6:29 p.m. about the drowning, which happened near Cox Road, Clark said.
The London-Laurel County Rescue Squad and Baldrock Fire Department deployed boats and used an underwater drone to find and recover Gray’s body.
The rescue squad said in a social media post that the “advanced underwater imaging technology” allowed them to find and recover the body within 30 minutes of crews’ arrival.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife is handling the death investigation, which is ongoing, Clark said.
Gray’s obituary stated that he was married with three children and “never hesitated to lend a helping hand to someone in need.”
“Whether offering encouragement, sharing what he had, or even bringing home those who were homeless so they would have a safe place to stay, Jordan gave freely of himself without expecting anything in return,” the obituary stated. “His kindness, generosity, and willingness to help others were defining qualities of his life.”
