7 victims of Knox County fire died of smoke inhalation, police say

The seven people found dead in a burning house Saturday in Knox County all died of smoke inhalation, state police confirmed Tuesday in a news release.

Foul play is not suspected in the fatal fire, according to the news release.

Those who died in the fire were Jesse Disney, 27; his girlfriend, Nina Asher, 22, who was pregnant; Asher's children from a previous relationship, William Gray Jr., 3; Camden Gray, 2; and Abigail Gray, 8 months; and sisters Paiten and Brielle Cox, who were both 2 years old.

Paiten and Brielle Cox were sleeping over Friday night at the home that Disney and Asher shared in the Gray community, a few miles east of Corbin.

The fire started between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. Saturday in a back bedroom of the home.

An uncle of Jesse Disney's tried to get the occupants out, but they were dead before he and firefighters arrived.

State police are investigating the cause of the blaze.
