Take a look at Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s pirate-themed home for sale at $3.7 million
Legendary race-car driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. is selling his historic, pirate-themed Key West home for $3.7 million.
“This is a one-of-a-kind house,” according to the official listing for the Florida home. “The property is in the heart of Old Town and is steeped in a rich and mysterious history, complete with a secret hidden hatch door to observe people in the parlor.”
The five-bedroom, four bath, conch-style home was built in 1863 during the Civil War era. With a nod to the island’s pirate days, the house has “lovingly” retained most of the original architecture, the listing says.
At 3,306 square feet, Earnhardt’s place is large compared to most of Key West homes, according to TopTenRealEstateDeals.com, which received permission to share photos of the property (see video).
“Deceptive in size from the gingerbread front entrance, the rooms retain most of the original architecture along with added pirate and nautical themes,” the real estate website said. “Rope-wrapped columns, lots of wood, a ship’s wheel on the side of the large wrap-around bar in the kitchen and parrots sitting up in the rafters watching the goings on. On the second floor there is even a secret floor hatch that can be lifted to spy on the mates below.”
The outdoor swimming pool is one of the deepest and largest in Key West, about 13 to 14 feet deep, according to the listing. The listing states: “A gate from the second-floor porch opens allowing daring (or crazy) individuals to jump off the second floor into the pool.”
A one-bedroom guest house sits at the other side of the lot at 708 Eaton Street. The owner planned to turn it into a two-bedrooms, one-bath abode, according to the listing. Earnhardt’s local contractor has plans and estimated costs ready for construction.
Landscaping across the .20-acre lot is lush with palm trees.
The home is listed at $1.3 million more than Earnhardt paid in 2009.
Earnhardt and his wife Amy, an interior designer, have previous experience in Key West real estate. In 2018, the first house they restored was featured in a four-part reality TV series for DIY Network called “Renovation Realities: Dale Jr. & Amy.” After completing the renovation, the property sold in just a matter of days. Their second house has been completed and recently been put on the market.
Bob and Debbie Cardenas of Ocean Sotheby’s International Realty hold the listing.
