When will all the ice and snow melt? Be patient, better weather is on the way.

Kentucky was once again hit with a winter storm on Thursday into Friday, but better and brighter days are ahead in the forecast.

According to the National Weather Service, a winter weather advisory placed on Fayette County and many other areas in Kentucky will expire at noon Friday. Bitterly cold temperatures – a high of 28 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of 12 degrees on Friday – will likely keep the layers of ice, sleet and snow on the ground while crews work to clear the roadways.

It won’t warm up much on Saturday, per NWS. The high for that day is 27 degrees while the low is 15 degrees.

Sunday is when the melting process should begin, as the high for that day is 41 degrees. NWS predicts it will be sunny on Sunday with very little wind.

The highs for next Monday-Thursday are expected to peak in the high 30s, low 40s, while every day is expected to be mostly or partly sunny. NWS doesn’t predict any hazardous weather for those days.

WKYT chief meteorologist Chris Bailey said in his forecast there’s a slight possibility for light snow early next week, but otherwise the rest of the week is clear of wintry weather. However, he did say “the pattern grows active once again” later in the week, suggesting more winter storm threats are on the way.

Here’s the day by day forecast for Lexington through Thursday, according to NWS.
