Forecast: Winter storm watch coming for Lexington, 3 to 6 inches of snow possible

Parts of central and east-Central Kentucky, including Lexington, will be under a winter storm watch Friday in preparation for a snow storm arriving Friday evening.

The National Weather Service is calling for 3 to 6 inches of snow in Lexington from Friday night through Saturday morning. All parts of Kentucky are expected to see snowfall, with Eastern Kentucky projected to get hit the hardest.

The National Weather Service said travel impacts are expected with this storm.

Bitterly cold temperatures – as high as 28 and as low as 12 – will linger in the area Saturday, preventing the snow from melting. Temperatures will go above freezing again beginning Sunday.

WKYT Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey said in his forecast snow should begin to fall Friday night at a rate of more than 1 inch per hour. He said several inches of snow are expected to fall during that span.

WKYT meteorologist Jim Caldwell is calling for 3 to 6 inches of snow in his forecast. Out east, he thinks some areas could see upwards of 8 inches of snow.
