April snow is possible in Lexington this weekend, meteorologists say

It might be April, but winter weather hasn’t left Central Kentucky just yet.

A small amount of snow might fall in Lexington this weekend as temperatures could dip below freezing, according to meteorologists in the region.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and isolated thunderstorms will arrive in the region beginning Friday afternoon. Those storms could produce small, soft hail.

The storm will stay in the area Friday night through early Saturday morning, possibly producing some light snow accumulation.

Temperatures will be low Friday and Saturday, possibly getting below freezing, according to the National Weather Service. Warmer temperatures will take over Sunday afternoon, getting as high as the low 70s, according to the National Weather Service.

WKYT meteorologist Jim Caldwell has a similar timeline in his forecast. As for the snowfall, Caldwell said there will likely be accumulation on grassy surfaces, elevated spots or on cars.

Caldwell also said as temperatures increase Sunday and early next week, more strong storms could follow right behind it.
