After mild weekend, Lexington may see record-breaking heat. Could we hit 100?

After a cooler than usual summer weekend, temperatures in Lexington are expected to rise back up this week, potentially to the triple-digit mark, according to the National Weather Service.

The weather forecasts a warmer and mostly sunny day for Monday, followed by very hot days on Tuesday and Wednesday. NWS said the high for Tuesday could range from 95-99 degrees Fahrenheit while the high for Wednesday could hit 100.

The highest recorded temperature in Lexington on June 21 is 97, while the record for June 22 is 99, according to NWS. Both of those marks were set in 1988.

The hottest temperature ever recorded in June is 104, which happened in 1936, according to NWS. The last time Lexington saw a 100-degree day in June was 10 years ago.

The temperatures will be lower on Thursday, with a projected peak between 87 and 94 degrees. There’s also a 20 percent chance of evening thunderstorms on Wednesday, according to NWS.
