Kentucky windstorm: Where were the highest wind speeds in the state? See the data
Wind gust speeds in Fayette County reached nearly 80 miles per hour during Friday’s historic windstorm, which were some of the highest wind gust speeds recorded across the state, according to the National Weather Service.
Wind gust speeds topped out at 78 miles per hour in the western portion of Fayette County, according to the NWS. Central Fayette County saw wind gusts up to 72 miles an hour.
According to the NWS, the highest wind gust speed ever recorded in Lexington was 85 miles per hour. It happened in April 1948 when an EF-2 tornado hit Keeneland.
The highest recorded wind gust speed on Friday came out of Jefferson County at 79 miles per hour, according to the NWS. Other counties that saw at least 70 mile per hour wind gusts were Breckinridge, Bullitt, Green, Henry, Jessamine, Mercer, Scott, Shelby, Simpson, Taylor and Woodford counties.
Several other counties topped out at wind gust speeds in the 60s.
The storm featured a 121-year all-time low pressure record out of Louisville, as the pressure was recorded at 28.85 inches at 3:14 p.m. Friday. The previous record was 28.93 inches.
The all-time low pressure record out of Bowling Green was also broken.
In Western Kentucky, wind gusts speeds peaked at just above 70 miles per hour in Fulton and Christian counties. According to the NWS, a 72 mile per hour wind gust was recorded in Hickman at 10:40 a.m. while a 71 mile per hour wind gust was recorded in Fort Campbell just after noon.
A separate 67 mile per hour wind gust was also recorded in the Hopkinsville at 12:10 p.m., according to the NWS.
