More potentially severe storms are heading to Kentucky, meteorologists predict

Another potentially severe storm with damaging winds is expected to hit Kentucky this week, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS projected that virtually all of Kentucky will be under at least a slight risk for severe weather, with most of the state, including Lexington, under an enhanced risk. The storm is expected to arrive in Western Kentucky as early as late Tuesday evening and linger through Wednesday as it travels east.

Straight line wind is the main threat with the storm, but isolated tornadoes and large hail are possible, the NWS said. Wind gusts outside of the thunderstorms could reach upwards of 45 miles per hour.

The NWS said it had “medium” confidence in its severe storm forecast.

Areas of Western Kentucky could see more than 2 inches of rain from the storm, the NWS said.

Temperatures will be pleasant on Tuesday and Wednesday before they fall on Thursday, according to the NWS.

Severe storms were forecast for much of the state over the weekend too, with Gov. Andy Beshear declaring a state of emergency as meteorologists warned of the potential hazards.
