A possible weather-related death occurred in Lexington Tuesday as the city battled frigid temperatures, Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said in a news release Thursday.

A railroad engineer found the body of a 60-year-old man at 1:19 p.m. Tuesday at 500 Newtown Pike. The location is a grassy area near the rear of the property adjacent to R.J. Corman’s Railroad track, Ginn said in a Thursday news release.

An autopsy found no trauma and the preliminary finding was an intracerebral hemorrhage and an enlarged heart, the release said.

The man’s name is not being immediately released because his relatives have not been notified, Ginn said.

“The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) has been put on notice due to the possibility of this being a weather- related death,” Ginn said in a news release. “Please be advised that unless you must go outside during the frigid temperatures we have been experiencing you should not stay for extended periods of times and be sure to bundle up in layers of clothing.”

This death is still under investigation and the cause and manner of death is pending a toxicology finding, Ginn said.
