Friday marked the sixth straight day of rainfall in the Lexington area. And while the sun finally came out just before noon, there’s a chance of more thunderstorms later Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Though several of those rainy days featured wind and thunderstorms, the Lexington area has seen minimal storm damage this week. NWS meteorologist Dan McKemy said that’s expected to remain true heading into the weekend.

“Not like what it has been the last several days, but today’s set could produce some gusty winds and some heavy rainfall,” McKemy said.

Another round of rain may hit Central Kentucky on Saturday, particularly east of Interstate 65, but the rain is finally expected to dry up starting Sunday.

“The main theme going into Sunday and early next week is warm and dry temperatures,” McKemy said.

Temperatures are expected to climb into the 90s from Sunday through Wednesday with no chance of rain in the forecast.

Rainfall totals from recent storms

The heaviest day of rainfall in Lexington this past week was Sunday, when 1.14 inches of rain fell.

In all, Lexington saw about 3.99 inches of total rainfall last month. Despite the recent showers, that still puts the area below its average July rainfall of 5.12 inches.

The average total rainfall for August in Lexington is 3.71 inches, according to the NWS. Last year, Lexington saw 2.4 inches of rain in August.
