Lexington got 3 more inches of snow from Friday’s storm. Now get ready for extreme cold.

A second winter storm in five days dumped 3.1 more inches of snow on Lexington Friday and early Saturday.

Now, Central Kentucky can get ready for another round of extreme cold.

Snowfall totals from the most recent event included measurements of about 2.5 inches in Lawrenceburg, 3 inches in Richmond and 3.2 inches in Louisville, while some areas slightly to the south got a little more, said Evan Webb, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Louisville. Webb said Shepherdsville and Fort Knox got about 4.5 inches each, while 5.1 inches was measured near Leitchfield.

Saturday’s high was expected to be around 30, with overnight lows in the upper teens. Sunday will be partly sunny, with highs in the mid-30s, Webb said.

Then, from Monday night to Thursday, “it’ll get frigid,” Webb said.

He said temperatures will plummet Monday night, hitting single digits by Tuesday morning. Temperatures Wednesday morning could be around 0 in Lexington, he said. Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s highs are expected to be in the low 20s.

“After that, we slowly start to warm back up,” Webb said.

By next Friday afternoon, he said temperatures will be above freezing, possibly hitting 40 degrees.

Friday’s snowfall and coming cold temperatures follow a winter storm that dropped heavy snow and ice on Kentucky Sunday and Monday, leading to power outages and treacherous road conditions throughout the state.
