Temperatures are expected to plummet in Kentucky this week. Here’s what to know.
Temperatures across Kentucky are expected to drop into the single digits this week as a cold front moves into the state, according to the National Weather Service.
One cold front is pushing across eastern Kentucky Monday, keeping temperatures in the low 30s, forecasters said in the NWS’ area forecast discussion. Dry, cold air will move into the region overnight, dropping the temperatures even lower into the low teens.
And then another, reinforcing cold front Tuesday will drop the temperatures even lower, with highs between 25 and 36 degrees Fahrenheit and lows into the single digits for some areas.
Forecasters said there is a chance for snow Tuesday, but accumulation amounts will be less than one inch, and impacts are unlikely due to low water content in the atmosphere.
Temperatures will be frigid once again Wednesday. Forecasters said highs in the afternoon will struggle to get into the 20s while the lows will be in the single digits.
It’s expected to warm up beginning Thursday, as temperatures climb back toward typical levels heading into the weekend.
The NWS’ seven-day forecast for Lexington has a high temperature of 35 degrees for Thursday and 43 degrees Friday.
There is also a chance for a moderate rainstorm Friday night into Saturday morning, according to NWS forecasters.
