Lexington breaks 135-year-old record Monday as temperature reaches 72 degrees

The temperature in Lexington reached 72 degrees Monday, breaking a record that had stood for 135 years, according to the National Weather Service.
The previous record for warmest Feb. 3 was in 1890, when the temperature reached 70 degrees.
Kentucky’s average high temperature for Feb. 3 is 44 degrees, according to the NWS. The last time Lexington recorded a temperature of at least 70 degrees was Nov. 6.
What is the weather like the rest of the week?
While the temperature the rest of the week isn’t expected to be as warm as Monday, it’ll still be above the daily averages.
On Tuesday, the temperature is expected to reach 50 degrees, according to the seven-day forecast for Lexington. The projected high temperature is 45 for Wednesday and 66 for Thursday, well above the daily average of 44-45 degrees.
There is a 70-90% chance for showers Wednesday night and Thursday. The NWS said there’s a chance for thunderstorms Wednesday, and while flooding remains a possibility from the rainfall, it’s unlikely.
It will also be windy Wednesday and Thursday, with gusts peaking around 25 miles per hour, according to the NWS.
The sun will come back out Friday, but it will push the temperature to only 48 degrees, according to the NWS. The daily average for Feb. 7 is 45 degrees.
