Severe weather, including damaging wind, hail and tornadoes, possible for KY this weekend

A round of severe storms is expected to hit parts of Central and Western Kentucky this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

The storms are projected to arrive between 7 p.m. Sunday and 8 a.m. Monday, according to the NWS. Areas of central and western Kentucky, including Lexington, are in the enhanced risk zone of the NWS’ severe weather outlook, which indicates a high confidence of storms featuring damaging winds, large hail and tornadoes.

Areas of Eastern Kentucky are in the slight risk zone, which indicates that some storms could contain weather hazards.

The line of storms will move west to east. The NWS said any area in the storm’s path could experience severe weather for up to two hours.

There is also a chance for flooding from the storms, as some areas could get two inches of rain. The NWS said there is a marginal risk for flash flooding, and minor flooding along the Green River is possible.

Another severe storm could impact the area Wednesday. The NWS said the probability for severe weather Wednesday is between 15-29% and damaging winds, hail and tornadoes are once again possible.
