Several more KY counties approved for FEMA assistance for April flood recovery
President Donald Trump has approved a request for more Kentucky counties to be eligible for assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency after deadly flooding last month, according to Gov. Andy Beshear.
The new counties eligible for individual assistance are Breckinridge, Bullitt, Calloway, Daviess, Garrard, Grayson, Hancock, Hart, Henderson, Henry, Jefferson, LaRue, Lincoln, McLean, Meade, Muhlenberg, Nelson, Ohio, Oldham, Pendleton, Powell, Trimble, Warren and Webster counties.
Anderson, Butler, Carroll, Christian, Clark, Franklin, Hardin, Hopkins, Jessamine, McCracken, Mercer, Owen and Woodford counties were previously approved for individual assistance in late April.
The total number of counties included in the major disaster declaration and eligible for individual assistance now sits at 37. Beshear said he plans to request more counties be added to the declaration.
“Great news — 24 more counties have been approved for Individual Assistance by FEMA following the April severe weather,” Beshear said in a news release. “This process takes time, and we will continue to request more counties be added until everyone affected receives the support they need and deserve.”
April’s flooding came after as much as 15 inches of rain fell on some parts of Kentucky, damaging homes and businesses, closing hundreds of roads, forcing evacuations and leading communities to conserve water.
Beshear had requested the major disaster declaration April 11. He thanked Trump and Office of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem for adding the additional counties to the declaration.
How to apply for FEMA support
Families in the 37 approved counties for individual assistance can apply for support at a FEMA disaster recovery center. The deadline to apply for FEMA assistance is June 25.
Locations and hours of the disaster recovery centers in the approved counties can be found on the governor’s website.
