A pair of siblings was among those killed late Friday night when a deadly tornado struck residential areas of London.

Linda Sweet, 72, and Gary Sweet, 71, were killed in their Laurel County home when it was destroyed by a tornado. Their brother, Billy, was hospitalized with injuries.

The Herald-Leader spoke with longtime family friend Sunni Allen about the trio, who said Gary and Linda had disabilities and lived together independently on Old Whitley Road. They had support from family and friends, Allen said Tuesday.

“They were the kindest, nicest people you could have ever met in your entire life,” Allen said. “They were very humble, servants to the Lord.”

Everyone in the community knew the siblings, Allen said.

“Gary was an amazing artist. He could draw anything.”

Gary and Linda had lived for a number of years with their younger brother, Billy, who was also home at the time of the tornado and is recovering at the UK Chandler Hospital, Allen said.

“He’s hurt, but he’s going to be OK,” Allen said. “It’s a miracle that Billy survived.”

London Funeral Home is handling the arrangements, which had not been announced as of Tuesday afternoon.
