More rain in KY: Heavy rainfall could create high water, flash flooding Tuesday

Heavy rainfall could create instances of high waterand flash flooding Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Areas north of the parkways in Kentucky — near Southern Indiana — could get up to an inch of rain, while areas south of the parkways in Central and Eastern Kentucky could get up to two inches of rain by Tuesday evening.

Isolated to scattered instances of flooding are possible for Central and Eastern Kentucky, especially in low-lying or poor-drainage areas, the NWS said.

Areas of Eastern Kentucky have higher chances of seeing flooding. Forecasters in the NWS Jackson have held off on issuing a flood watch, but one could be activated Tuesday morning or afternoon.

The NWS said the excessive rainfall threat is expected to subside by Wednesday morning. None of the storms are expected to be severe, according to the NWS.

There are more chances for rain after Tuesday’s storms. The NWS’ seven-day forecast for Lexington says there is a 30% chance of rain Wednesday and a 40% chance of rain Friday.
