Rain, cooler temps on the way. When will Central Kentucky get relief from the heat?
After a week of intense heat and humidity, Kentucky can look forward to a cooler start to July — but we’ll have to endure a few more days of heat before then.
A heat advisory remains in effect for Central Kentucky through 8 p.m. on Thursday. The high for Thursday will be in the low 90s, with the heat index over 100 degrees for the sixth consecutive day, according to the National Weather Service in Louisville.
The heat index is expected to be between 100 and 105 degrees on Thursday.
When a heat advisory is in effect, it’s recommended to drink plenty of water, stay out of the sun and check in on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly who are sensitive to heat.
But it’ll be a few more days before a significant break in the heat and humidity.
Friday’s temperatures will again be in the low 90s, with a chance of scattered thunderstorms throughout the day, and especially in the afternoon and evening.
On Saturday, the temperature finally leaves the 90s, but not by much. The high is expected to be in the upper 80s, with another chance of storms. A similar forecast is expected for the following few days.
By Tuesday, July 1, the high will be 85 degrees. WKYT Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey said temperatures at the start of July should be more pleasant, but a chance of storms remains through next week.
