The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 7, which covers Fayette County, said crews worked overnight and continue to work Monday treating the roads. Gov. Andy Beshear said the roads are slicker than they appear.

“Everybody needs to be really careful today,” Beshear said in a post on X. “Remember, those are Kentuckians out on the road. We want to protect you, we want to protect them, so everybody take a little extra time to get where you’re going today.”

The temperatures will remain in the 30s throughout the day Monday and fall into the upper teens to mid- to upper 20s overnight.

Cold temperatures forecast for later this week

Temperatures in Lexington are expected to be in the 40s Tuesday, Dec. 9 and Wednesday, Dec. 10 before a cold front drops into the region Wednesday night. The projected high for Thursday, Dec. 11 and Friday Dec. 12 is 35 degrees Fahrenheit, followed by highs in the low to mid-20s over the weekend, according to the NWS’ seven-day forecast for Lexington.

The projected lows for Wednesday and Thursday nights are in the mid-20s, while the lows for Friday and Saturday nights are in the low teens.

There are also chances for precipitation later in the week. The NWS said weather models show a decent amount of uncertainty in projecting the forecast, but temperatures around freezing could provided mixed types of precipitation.
