Kentuckians can expect weather whiplash going into Monday with temperatures expected to drop nearly 50 degrees overnight.

Sunday saw record high temperatures in the low 70s, according to the Louisville National Weather Service.

In Lexington, the temperature reached 68 degrees, which broke the 2021 record for the highest December temperature at 67 degrees, according to WKYT chief meteorologist Chris Bailey.

But a strong cold front will move through the Bluegrass state bringing rain and strong wind gusts of at least 40 miles per hour.

Central Kentucky could see severe wind gusts of more than 60 mph per hour, between 7 p.m. Sunday and 1 a.m. Monday.

As Monday approaches, the record high temperatures will fall nearly 40 to 50 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.

The high for Monday is expected to be the 30s and wind chills could fall into the teens, the NWS said.
