New meteorologist, multimedia reporter joins WKYT’s weather team
A new meteorologist is joining WKYT’s First Alert Weather Team, the station announced Thursday morning.
Meteorologist and multimedia journalist Sabrina Ullman started at the station this week. Ullman previously worked at WDIO-TV in Duluth, Minnesota, for five years, covering both weather and news.
Ullman became a Certified Broadcast Meteorologist through the American Meteorological Society in 2025, and she continued to contribute as a reporter, earning the title of Senior Multimedia Journalist at WDIO-TV.
“Northland will always have a place in my heart, but I was at the point where I was the most senior multimedia journalist, and I was training other reporters,” said Ullman. “But the only person I really had to learn from was my chief meteorologist, and it’s nice to learn more about reporting and improve my craft from other reporters, and just have more people to learn from and continue to grow in meteorology and reporting.”
She will continue to split her time between forecasting and reporting at WKYT, spending three days a week reporting while joining the weekend morning weather broadcast, she wrote in her announcement on LinkedIn.
“My first passion was meteorology, that was something I decided when I was four that that’s what I wanted to do, and then the love for reporting came later, but I do think that doing one helps the other,” Ullman said. “I was looking for a position where I’d still get to do both for the weather and reporting, because I really enjoy both aspects of the job, which I know is weird for meteorologists (to) like to report, but here I am.”
Ullman’s work has garnered awards, from an Upper Midwest Emmy nomination to multiple Eric Sevareid Awards, according to WKYT. She is excited for this next chapter in her career and life. Ullman, while drawn to covering environmental news, is most focused on bringing a positive impact to the community with any topic she covers.
“I like covering stories that matter, why this will impact you, and making a difference through my storytelling, or maybe there’s an issue people didn’t know about. Through my reporting, maybe there’s a positive change that can be made,” Ullman said.
Ullman is originally from central Florida but grew up Tennessee. She then attended the University of Miami in Florida. Her move to Kentucky will bring her closer to her family in Nashville and into a milder winter climate, the station said.
“‘I’ve kind of lived in two extremes, and I’m excited to be somewhere in the middle,” Ullman said.
