Before the rain, according to a U.S. drought monitor released by the NWS on June 4, much of Kentucky was in a drought ranging from being abnormally dry to in an extreme drought. In Eastern Kentucky, the drought was expected to persist through the end of August.

Wednesday morning’s forecast calls for a chance of thunderstorms bringing between 0.1 and 0.25 inches of rainfall before clearing up and leaving the night partly cloudy.

A chance of rainfall and thunderstorms will persist into Monday, the NWS said, with the exception of a sunny Saturday.
