I want to thank the Herald-Leader editorial board for a thoughtful look at this race, and for the kind words about all four of us. Zach is a good man who has served this country, and I congratulate him.

I’m still asking for your vote on May 19, and here’s why.

Democrats are not going to win this district in November, or take back this country, by doing what we have always done. People are exhausted by Washington, and they are tired of the same arguments, delivered the same way, by the same kind of people. A résumé full of the right credentials is not what’s missing. What’s missing is a message of substance that people across this community can actually get behind, and a messenger willing to deliver it in plain language instead of the language of D.C.

That’s the campaign I’ve tried to run. Real plans on prescription drug pricing, wages, housing, and cleaning up campaign finance, written to pass and written to work. You can read every one at davidkloiber.com. Not slogans, not talking points, but bills.

I’ve spent this race talking with people, not at them. In living rooms, on porches, at union halls and county party meetings from Fayette to Fleming. What I hear is the same thing everywhere. People want someone who will say what they mean, do what they say, and bring fresh ideas to a Congress that has clearly run out of them.

That’s the representative I intend to be.

David Kloiber wrote this piece in response to the Herald-Leader’s endorsement of Zach Dembo for the Democratic primary in the U.S. Sixth District House race. The Herald-Leader invites candidates who were not endorsed to respond with an op-ed.
