Letters to the editor: Disappointing to see Trump’s attacks on Thomas Massie

HEBRON, KENTUCKY - MAY 19: Rep. Thomas Massie speaks with supporters after his concession speech on May 19, 2026 in Hebron, Kentucky. Massie, who has served Kentucky's 4th Congressional District since 2012, conceded his loss after the most expensive US House Primary in US history against Trump-endorsed candidate Ed Gallrein. Nuclear weaponry

The lack of imagination of our political leaders amazes me. There are nine countries that currently possess nuclear weapons: U.S., Russia, China, France, U.K., Pakistan, India, Israel, and North Korea. The chief value of their possession lies in their existence rather than any expectation that they will be used. Exact numbers are only estimated and with the freezing of compliance with the START treaty we can only estimate that, for example, Russia has greater than 6,000 war heads and North Korea an estimated 40.

I fully expect Iran to get nuclear weapons from either Russia or North Korea. The idea that the U.S. or anyone else will prevent Iran from either making their own nuclear weapon, or obtaining one, is ridiculous.

Any hope that we can prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon can only lie in invading Iran and changing the regime. That is unlikely to work for any length of time even if we could do it considering the longtime enmity of the Islamic nations toward each other and Israel.

Trump really struck the tar baby again.

Treasonous Trump

President Donald Trump recently called a journalist treasonous for asking a valid question that demands an answer, what more bombing of Iran would achieve.

In his military operation against Iran, Trump has wasted half our arsenal, achieved nothing and failed completely. Worse yet, he has destabilized the global economy that hinders the world logistic system and has left a toxic geo-political mess that benefits only Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Soaked in rancid vanity after having been granted the greatest power in the globe, Trump diminishes our nation its people into a bastion of MAGA culture warriors which are only rationally described as fascist.

We have until the early 2030s to mitigate climate change before it catastrophizes into civilization ending and possible life extinction on our world. It’s not a hoax.

We have until the 2070’s before all this oil, coal, and natural gas that we are killing each other over will be depleted – a death nail in our collective coffin. And yet, this guy has the audacity to call anyone “treasonous.”

Trump is traitor to the whole of humanity ... just ask any Epstein Victim.

Winning the war

Many of the pundits I read or listen to seem to think President Donald Trump wants an off ramp from the Iranian war, also known as the “not a war” according to the Administration (depending on the day and the circumstances). They see few options that will assist him in this endeavor to return to the way things were before our predatory moves.

I suggest the following:

Say repeatedly that the war/non-war is over. Period! Say the U.S. won the war/non-war unequivocally! Say the Strait of Hormuz is open for business, no problem. Walk away!

Problems solved, and we can move on to interfering in the governments of other (dangerous) countries that we don’t like, that have assets we want, that will be quick in-and-out successes for the American military. Since MAGA will believe everything that comes from Trump’s, lips and since the Republican majority in Congress has surprising numbers of people experiencing deafness and muteness, this approach will be quick, certain and unquestioned.

It is bizarre that the President hasn’t tried these options sooner. He has had plenty of practice enticing his followers with his personal version of events. Hook, line and…we all sink!

Attacking his own

It is tragic that President Donald Trump spends so much time and energy viciously attacking anyone who disagrees with him. This is not the essence of democracy which requires civilized debate and acknowledges the right of people to hold their own varying opinions.

Trump is not a king or emperor. His is an elected leader who needs to listen to and acknowledge dissenting voices instead of seeking to forever muzzle them - especially when his illegal war in Iran is destroying the American and global economies.

U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and other patriots will end up forming their own party and/or align with Democrats. They will not be stopped by Trump’s myopic and immature antics.

The Republicans will find out the hard way in November what happens when you so callously alienate and betray millions of your supporters.

Massie righteousness

As a woman who was once a teenager, the mother of 2 girls that were teenagers, and grandmother to 7 granddaughters, the oldest two being teenagers, I declare that U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., is a righteous man whose political career was martyred by evil forces. I thank him for his courage and ask him to keep strong. His reward in heaven will be great. Shame on those that voted him out.
