Here’s a roundup of endorsements the Herald-Leader made for candidates in the November election

Governor: Andy Beshear

Beshear has been a stalwart, steady presence in the lives of Kentuckians, comforting people with big hugs and even bigger policies to get people back on their feet. On this leadership alone, he would earn our endorsement. But additionally, he is the clear and compelling choice because he has been a bulwark against extremism in the state while putting it on stronger footing in a host of other ways for the future. He more than deserves a second term and earns the Herald-Leader’s endorsement for governor.

Attorney General: Pam Stevenson

A career based on problem-solving and logistics in military hot spots around the world and helping people makes her the obvious choice for Attorney General over her Republican challenger, the former president Donald Trump-appointed U.S. Attorney Russell Coleman.

Secretary of State: Michael Adams

When it comes to Secretary of State Michael Adams, we admire his stalwart defense of democracy and his willingness to resist the most extreme elements of the former President Donald Trump wing of the Republican Party. It’s why we think he deserves our endorsement for another term as Secretary of State.

Auditor: Allison Ball

Ball has done a good job in two terms as treasurer, and with her intricate knowledge of state government, we believe she deserves a chance to serve as Kentucky’s auditor. In a red state, we want to encourage Republicans like Ball — who rejects election denialism — to continue with a more pragmatic, more sensible brand of politics.

Agriculture Commissioner: Sierra Enlow

Enlow, who has bachelors and masters degrees in agriculture economics and now works as an economic development consultant, understands new and emerging markets. She wants to help guide the cannabis market as it evolves, reinvigorate hemp production, which suffered under processing and distribution woes, and build upon the Agriculture Department’s work in helping food-insecure places.

Treasurer: Michael Bowman

We think Michael Bowman is the best person for the job. A former bank officer with U.S. Bank, he has most recently worked as a special assistant to Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman in the education and labor cabinet. He wants to focus on transparency and much-needed financial literacy in Kentucky.

Fayette County Races

House of Representatives, 93rd District: Adrielle Camuel

She follows in the spirit of former Rep. Lamin Swann, and his compassion for our most vulnerable, advocacy for public education and a belief that women and their doctors should make decisions about healthcare, rather than politicians. She will make the best person for the seat.

County Clerk: Susan Lamb

Lamb is clearly the best candidate in the race based on her years of experience in city government and deep understanding of how it all works together. Lamb has big (and much needed) plans to bring the clerk’s office into the 21st century, putting more services on line and further digitizing the county’s clerk’s priceless land records.

Fayette County School Board, District 1: Marilyn Clark

Clark is an easy choice for endorsement because of her deep understanding of our school system’s operations and for the things she’s championing, like preschool, mental health initiatives and different ways to make up for the learning loss endured during COVID.
