Thanks to volunteers for school board post
Please, join us in thanking the nine Lexington residents who have volunteered for an often thankless, frequently stressful, all but unpaid seat on the Fayette County Board of Education.
Judging from their brief resumes, all would bring something of value to the board and the schools.
That so many people have put themselves out there also speaks well of how deeply Lexington values education.
A panel will interview the candidates May 17 and make a recommendation to Kentucky Education Commissioner Stephen Pruitt, who will then appoint one of the candidates to replace former board chair John Price who died of leukemia in February. The appointee will serve through the end of the year.
The seat is one of three on the school board that will be up for election in November.
The filing deadline is Aug. 9.
