Barr’s poor solution
I was astounded by the simplistic solutions to poverty proposed by Rep. Andy Barr. Taking away subsidies and safety nets won't cure poverty. A better approach to the problem would be to raise the minimum wage, provide educational opportunities for well-paying jobs, assist with good affordable housing, and help working parents with child-care costs.
There will always be those who take advantage of the system. Why punish the many (including children) for the sins of the few? It would benefit the economy to take positive action to help people out of poverty rather than the punitive measures suggested by Barr.
