Ky. needs migrant workers

In an August Associated Press article highlighting the differences between Jim Gray and Sen. Rand Paul on farming policies, Paul is quoted as saying “You’ll have less illegal immigration if you have more legal immigration.”

Thus, opening a can of worms, that is polarizing and deeply entrenched in our political system.

However, when keeping farms open in Kentucky is reliant on a migrant workforce, the situation is pushed from a partisan issue to a Kentucky issue.

The current immigration system is flawed. We need comprehensive immigration reform to be a priority, and we need to call upon our senators, Mitch McConnell and Paul, to push the narrative in that direction.

In the story, Gray is quoted “I believe Kentuckians deserve more: a senator who will always put Kentucky first.” Addressing the flawed immigration system is one way to put the commonwealth’s constituents first.
