Let school honor them all

As the sixth public high school in Fayette County is being completed, there is growing interest for choosing a name. A number of worthy candidates have been suggested, including: S.T. Roach, the renowned long-time successful basketball coach; Brenda Cowan, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty; John Price, the longtime board member and chair of Fayette County Public Schools; Mary Browning Wright, long-time administrator and CAO of FCPS; another long-time school board chairman Barth Pemberton, and others who could be recognized and honored.

Since the new high school site is located on the former Hamburg Place farm, why not consider naming the school Hamburg Memorial? The memorial could honor the people previously mentioned by designating an area for plaques or determining other means of permanent recognition. There could also be allowances for new honorees in the future.

This could become a win/win for the school/community by not having to choose one name and perhaps forgetting others. Go, Hamburg!
