Eblen’s ivory tower

The arrogance and condescension underlying Tom Eblen’s Sept. 19 column is absolutely breathtaking. If you want to know why so many people in this country have turned toward a very unconventional candidate like Donald Trump, look no further than people who see the world through the same liberal elitist lens as Eblen. In Eblen’s world, Trump supporters are too stupid to think for themselves so they blindly follow the Limbaughs, Hannitys and Coulters of the conservative media. In Eblen’s world, Trump supporters are too stupid to realize how lucky they have been to live under the imperial reign of a two-term president who has delivered less than two percent economic growth, chaos in the Middle East, a resurgent Russia aggressively trying to roll back freedom in Eastern Europe, a China attempting to exert hegemony over Asian neighbors, allies who don’t trust the U.S. any more and so forth ad nauseum. I have no great fondness for candidate Trump, but liberals like Eblen who believe that they and their vision of government are above questioning by normal citizens should come down from their ivory towers once in a while and truly listen to the “deplorables.” Who knows Tom, you might actually learn something.
