Pray for common sense

Once I heard a speech about the death of common sense and how such can destroy a civilized way of life. It may be time to conduct the funeral, according to recent observation.

To wit: a governor whose mother apparently failed to teach him even the most basic manners or the ability to speak with even remote self-editing and who must mistakenly believe that he has been elected king; a state retirement system which cannot figure out a way to stop throwing good money down a rat hole (even I could and have done better, and what I know about investing you could write on a thumbnail). And last, but certainly not least, an education system that no longer cares if students learn to write, spell, punctuate, count change or process any financial transaction.

Most of my prayers on these fronts have been reduced to a simple, “God help us!”
