No to local sales tax

As Election Day approaches, remember that the General Assembly will again consider a constitutional amendment to allow local governments to add a 1-percent local sales tax. You would pay a 7-percent tax instead of the current 6 percent. It would negatively impact Kentucky’s businesses, consumers and economy.

Businesses would bear the burden of this new tax because they pay sales taxes on supplies, equipment and utilities. To adapt to this increase, businesses would be forced to increase prices or adjust their labor force.

Hardworking Kentuckians would have less money in their pockets because they would be paying an additional tax on the daily products they buy.

That is why before you head to the polls, ask all legislative candidates where they stand on this proposed new tax. This new tax is nothing but a loser for Kentucky.
