Ah, the spectacle
Aren’t we lucky to live in an age of sensations? So many spectacles and demonstrations are ongoing that we may be entertained almost all the time. This includes absurdities, outrages, pomp, claptrap, grand-doings and scandals. Indeed, the greatest sensation is that we have so many sensations.
The magnificence of this display rivals the grandiosity of kings, emperors and khedives. Who would have thought the 21st century would begin with such glitter? This parade of unexpected upheaval not only amazes but amuses. Thus, the public rightly may burst out laughing at a moment’s notice. Perhaps we should label this the “entertainment excess era”?
These spectacles are so interesting they encourage long life just to be around. If nonsense and hype promote life span, we maybe should list them as of medical value?
