Honor the vote

During a break in the action at a recent University of Kentucky football game, a disabled veteran was presented to the crowd on the new video screen.

The chant “USA, USA, USA” broke out and quickly involved everyone in the stands, except me.

I’m certain that this young man was honored and possibly overwhelmed by the chant, as he deserved to be. I couldn’t help but look around, watching the hysteria engulfing the crowd.

I wondered to myself which of those fanatically screaming fans were the six out of 10 who did not bother to vote in last year’s gubernatorial election, or the 40 percent of the registered voters who did not vote in the last presidential election.

If you really want to honor that young man and all of our veterans, vote.
