Why pay developers?

The current Lexington government is considering giving taxpayers’ dollars to private developers to build some things in Lexington. Is this putting the shoe on the other foot?

According to Jim Gray, mayor, this is a great American city. If so, why will the local government need to pay tax dollars to developers to come here to do their developing?

Maybe the mayor has been absent from so many meetings that he does not really know what is happening at 200 East Main St.

Developers have come and gone here in Lexington. Some have over-bought property, over-developed and could not unload what was developed, then left. Others were left holding the bag.

Do taxpayers really need our tax dollars handed out to others who have made a lot of money already? The money would be better spent on more police on our streets.

Who will be vetting these developers? The local government people?
