GOP weak against Russia

Until recently, the GOP and conservatives like Ronald Reagan stood staunchly against the Soviet Union because it sought our demise. Then Russia, likely with a nod and a wink from Vladimir Putin, tampered with our election to favor Donald Trump. Trump associates — including Paul Manafort, Roger Stone, Jeff Sessions and Michael Flynn — have ties to Russia, as do members of Trump’s family.

Recently, the head of the FBI, which is investigating these ties, was sacked by Trump.

The situation demanded a special prosecutor. Sen. Mitch McConnell was against the idea. Why wouldn’t congressional Republicans want these ties investigated in a nonpartisan manner? I think the answer is clear: They now put party politics above country. I expect this from McConnell, but hoped there were more congressional conservatives who wanted to get to the bottom of the unsettling Russian connections.

Apparently, I am grievously mistaken.
