Letter ignored facts

A July 7 letter misquoted Will Rogers as saying that a “man and his money are soon elected.” The correct quote is: “A fool and his money are soon elected.”

The writer also said there was never a war on coal. There was; the Obama administration was successful in making regulations so stringent that coal operators could not stay in business, especially given the cheaper fuels they were competing with. Hillary Clinton said on national TV while campaigning in West Virginia that the changes would put miners out of work.

As for the Electoral College system, it keeps large population centers from controlling elections. Otherwise, California, New York and perhaps Illinois would rule America. Clinton got a few million more votes than Donald Trump, but not a “vast majority.” Trump is the legally elected president of the United States, like it or not.
