Ashamed of GOP leaders

I’m embarrassed to be a Kentucky Republican. The lack of self-respect shown by U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, Sen. Mitch McConnell, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao and Gov. Matt Bevin by not publicly denouncing Donald Trump’s continued crude, divisive and unhinged performance as our president is sad and disheartening.

To watch a smiling Chao stand next to Trump during a news conference where he failed to adequately denounce white supremacists only hours after he publicly and repeatedly ridiculed her husband clearly shows how uncourageous she and other Republicans are. It’s obvious their political careers are more important than decency and common sense.

The day of reckoning is fast approaching when all Republicans will be held to account for why they didn’t denounce Trump when it was obvious to everyone else that he is unfit to serve as president. It’s too late for me to forgive them, but hopefully they’ll still come to their senses and do it for their families, friends and constituents.
