Pain in the bottleneck

Something needs to be done about the timing of the traffic signal at Nicholasville and Reynolds roads. One recent afternoon I was in the left-turn lane on south-bound Nicholasville Road for six light changes.

The left-turn traffic coming from east-bound Reynolds onto Nicholasville continued through the signal when there was no room to proceed, thereby blocking the intersection and causing the green arrow for my lane to end before anyone could move.

Of course the light on Reynolds never has been long enough to let many cars through and there is not enough space for them anyway. Perhaps the green arrow on Nicholasville could activate after the through traffic green lights instead of before them, so as to not be interfered with by the Reynolds Road traffic.

This is not the only intersection in Lexington with flow problems, but it is by far the worst.
