Columnist all wrong about guns
In his Aug. 23 column, “A revealing eclipse viewing,” Frank Ashley seemed surprised at the amount of misinformation there was about the eclipse. At least one piece of the misinformation was humorous.
Ashley should not be surprised by the amount of misinformation readers encounter every day. His June 26 column, on a topic that is anything but humorous (assault weapons), was total misinformation. Ashley could have fact-checked all assertions but did not. His column is only the latest iteration of misinformation about assault weapons. These letters and columns are political in nature, and these assertions are simply not true.
Machine guns — assault weapons/assault rifles — have been closely regulated by the federal government since 1934. Kentucky law prohibits convicted felons from owning or possessing any gun.
Please check the facts. In 2009, the Connecticut General Assembly’s Office of Legislative Research, created a report titled “summary of state and federal machine gun laws.” To see it in its entirety, go to https://www.cga.ct.gov/. Decide for yourself the truth about the control of assault weapons in this country.
