A way of verifying climate science

An Aug. 23 letter to the editor stated: “…human-derived global climate change, an idea supported by at least 97 percent of bonafide climate scientists...” The writer offers no support for the statement. A similar statement was made by a lady from the Union of Concerned Scientists on television a few months ago. Maybe it is 97 percent of the Union of Concerned Scientists — again totally unsupported and unquestioned by the network anchor.

A columnist for The Wall Street Journal once stated that many people use a similar opening statement to attempt to prevent questioning or discussion. He further added that the only way to resolve the issue would be to appoint a blue-ribbon panel of an equal number of select scientists from each side, have them provide detailed research and publish the data, have it duplicated and critiqued by the panel, then arrive at an open conclusion.

I question the percentage because no one polled me or any of the scientists I asked. One volunteered that 60 percent of all statistics are made up.
