Instead of ‘thoughts and prayers,’ let’s defeat NRA lapdogs

Everybody knows by now that the Republican reaction to any mass shooting event in America will be “thoughts and prayers” with absolutely no concrete action.

May I make a couple of suggestions in the spirit of the thing?

First, make future congressional resolutions in this area a fill-in-the-blank form. This will save time and effort. Oh, and instead of bothering to mention the actual event, start a numbering system: “Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of event number 407 in 2017.” Easy, sincere and so simple that even a Republican or NRA member can understand. Voila!

Second, if you’re armed to the teeth, angry and planning on killing a bunch of innocents before offing yourself, there’s no reason not to be a gentleman about it. Do the honorable thing and you go first.

Third, for any of us who desire to actually do something, make our “thoughts and prayers” involve the political defeat of the NRA and their lapdogs, the Republicans.
