Don’t overlook sacred past

As a Native American living in Kentucky I am wondering why nobody acknowledges that November is Native American Heritage Month. I mean, everyone is aware of Black History Month. In 1990, the president signed the observance into law, yet nobody publicizes it.

Why are there no TV spots, public service announcements, newspaper stories or documentaries?

NAHM is something that many people would love to know about and be proud of. I am doing what I can to spread the word, but I am only one voice in a world of noise. It would be nice to pick up your paper each November and read something about the native people. After all, Kentucky was once sacred Cherokee hunting ground and a land with mostly Cherokee people living on it.
