Sen. Paul and the debt
“The number one threat to our country is the national debt,” said Sen. Rand Paul in 2011. He believes it to be so important that there is a running count of the debt on his website. But the tax bill that Paul supports is projected by the Joint Committee on Taxation to add over $1 trillion to the debt.
In October of this year, Paul promised that he would not vote for a tax bill that raised taxes on middle-class families. The tax bill is still projected to raise taxes on millions of middle-class families.
Paul tweeted during the Obamacare debate in May that GOP leaders should make their bill-drafting process “transparent and to let the sunshine in.” But for some reason, he has no qualms about supporting a tax bill which was still being rewritten in secret as late as the night before the scheduled vote.
Paul, either you were lying when you made those promises to Kentuckians, or you are lying now. Which is it?
