Not just about us

Recently I was asked how the Trump tax plans would affect my family. I was told if I couldn’t come up with some story about how we were feeling pain from it then I should vote for Congressman Andy Barr.

Well, I can’t come up with anything the Republican plan is doing to my family’s own finances. We have good-paying jobs, excellent health insurance, my children are well educated and off to a good start in life. Even if my personal income taxes go up a little it won’t be too significant to my family’s well-being.

But this premise is all wrong. My family will be negatively affected because it will increase the deficit and the national debt, raise the taxes of many other working class families, discourage charitable giving, and students will not be able to deduct tuition grants. We are not so self-interested that our personal finances are our only concerns.

My family is against the tax plan because it harms others and that means it harms all of us. Call Barr’s office to tell him it is heartless to vote for a bill that benefits corporations over people.
