Letters to the Editor

Are you better off under Trump?

As of Jan. 9, the U.S. Senate has confirmed 19 federal judges nominated by President Donald Trump, including a Supreme Court justice. Have those appointments had a positive effect on your life? Trump has repealed several “job-killing regulations.” How many of your readers have gone back to work, or know of someone who has, as a result of these acts?

Last year was a very good year for the stock market. But in 2013, during President Barack Obama’s tenure, it was better. There were 2,055,000 jobs created in 2017, not quite as good as the 2,240,000 created during Obama’s last year.

In looking over my tax records, I realize the tax cut just enacted will give me an additional $950 to $1,000 next year. If I understand the bill correctly, I will enjoy this benefit until 2025.

I don’t need it, but I won’t be the one paying it back. I’m 82 years old. My grandkids will have to pay it. That’s OK; they owe me. Let’s hope that 2017 will not be this administration’s best year.
