McHale, F-Troop, Trump administration

On an old episode of “Firing Line,” Woody Allen almost prophetically suggested that the best thing for Democrats would be to let Republicans run everything for a year. We now find ourselves in precisely that predicament, and it’s one wild ride.

Up in the locomotive of this crazy train, the Republican FBI, part of the Republican Department of Justice, is raising the possibility that the Republican president committed treason. Harsh? Yes. But Republican congressmen and Republican pundits say the Republican FBI and DOJ are completely corrupt.

The Republican president, who won by calling all politicians a bunch of losers, now lets them steer the train. Republican evangelicals, having “chilled” on morals, ride proudly and silently alongside porn stars. Democrats eagerly wait their turn in the caboose and cry crocodile tears about “lost public faith” in institutions, and wait for the train to crash, like in 2008.

It’s all quite entertaining and keeps cable news profitable. But while our infrastructure crumbles, everyone’s addicted and we lose a war in Afghanistan, one can’t help but wonder how long our F-Troop/McHale’s Navy style of government can last. Lest I appear biased, I suspect that an all-Democratic government would be equally amusing.
