UK not a good neighbor in land swap

The University of Kentucky gets the roads around campus, the city gets 200 acres for a business park, and Columbia Heights, the neighborhood between UK and Chevy Chase, gets the traffic.

That appears to be the current plan. Why can’t UK, instead of running its traffic down Columbia into Columbia Heights, reroute the traffic to Sports Center Drive? Why can’t Rose Street be opened at night and on the weekends when there aren’t any students or staff around?

Why can’t UK give 540 Columbia, a vacant lot for decades, to the city for a community park instead of letting it be a public eyesore, year after year after year, undermining the neighborhood?

Why can’t we have an agreement that is fair to everyone, including the surrounding neighborhoods?
