Take bipartisan stand on Russia
Meetings of this country’s congressional intelligence oversight group relating to Russian meddling in our 2016 presidential election deserve attention, given the involvement of Sen. Mitch McConnell. John Brennan, former CIA director, recently gave an interview in which he stated McConnell was skeptical of CIA findings about the likelihood of Russian interference.
Another time, McConnell questioned the intelligence underlying a proposal by then-President Barack Obama to issue a bipartisan statement condemning Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Recently, McConnell has called for the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller to quickly conclude.
This is an attack on our democracy. It is a different method of warfare and it is working; the integrity of our government institutions and rule of law are being challenged as never before. For the sake of our democracy, McConnell cannot continue to play his usual role of political partisan.
